My Portable Recorder
July 03rd 2006
I got a lot of requests for the portable recorder I use. Here it is:
It comes with a fairly small SD memory card, but you can always find a bigger one on sale no problem.
You won’t be dissapointed.

The competing recorder you mentioned is the M-Audio Microtrack 24/96. It’s about the same size as the R-09, but uses an internal battery and a compactflash card.
Guitar Center has them and a lowest price guarantee – walk into any store and have a sales rep pull up Froogle, and they’ll match the lowest non-special/non-sale price online.

Guitar Center as far as I can tell doesn’t carry the Edirol yet – but I have to say, that looks like a really sweet unit. I may have to trade up

Yeah I looked at the one too, but couldn’t buy it because it didn’t have a built in microphone. That killed it for me.
Plus I like that this one uses SD instead of Compact Flash.
The built in mic and reverb are VERY nice… maybe I’ll ask for one for Christmas.
To do multi-mic interviews, will you have to plug it into a mixer?
How does one use this for a face to face interview? Two mics or does it just sit in between you and the person you are interviewing?
I’ve used it just sitting down with the person and placing it between us. I just did this yesterday and if you want to hear it you can go to http://www3.babson.edu/Offices/President/podcast/customcf/babson_deanrice_on_fasttrack.mp3
