Smirnoff Tries Viral Marketing

Smirnoff gets viral marketing. At least with this “Tea Partay” spot they do.

Not sure if this is only funny if your from New England like I am, but I had a friend send this to me and I had NO clue it was an ad until about 3/4 the way though. That is how to do it right.

The entertainment value was wonderful / The message was clear (once you understood it was an ad) / The viral or pass-along value is evident / The positioning is spot on. In fact, I am motivated to go out and try the product. Nice job Smirnoff. C.C., thank you for sharing.

Very cool vid. Unfortunately, they didn’t follow-through! If you go to the Web site (as instructed), they bounce you to the Smirnoff Ice Web site and have a little banner saying “Coming Soon.”

[…] After a week away, I saw a blog post about a new viral ad created for Smirnoff Raw Teas. Very, very funny. […]

Good job by Smirnoff on this one, taking a niche cultral piece (the white guy angry rap aka Lazy Sunday) and applying to the viral space - nice play into the market they are targetting.

Agreed that the follow-up that could have capitalized on the momentum here was totally absent. Maybe next time.
