Snow Crash Coming to Second Life

In a sort of “why did it take so long” moment I just read over on 3pointD that a sim is being built for the book Snow Crash.

If you are not familiar with the book, let’s just say that it predicted things like SL and coined the term Metaverse. I’m not a fanboy or anything, but it’s a great read and as pointed out in the post you’ve got to remember that this book was written before graphical web browsers as we know them even existed.

Eric is going to love this news.

this is great news! I loved the book when I read it when it first came out and I think it drove me even more into a career working online. I have to say when I re-read it a few years ago though it wasn’t a good as I remembered, and I think in some way it might be because we “caught up” with it?

But, either way, I look forward to the SL sim. All we need is a bit of the Diamond Age in there as well and I can make my own Mr Lee’s Greater Hong Kong :)

I also read the book when it first came out… After the last page, I closed the book and waited for someone to make it happen. So Second Life appears. And I enter. It’s not what I had invisioned, so I leave.

A year later, I give it another shot. The Metaverse has finally come back around, full circle apparently, and I eagerly await the Snow Crash sim!!! See you all in my world… – Lynette Radio
