Finding Second Life Builders

Anyone who knows me, knows that I’m a big fan of Second Life.

But, over the weekend I became extremely frustrated with something that I’m shocked is so difficult.

Current SL OfficeI have a plot of land that I’ve wanted to have a custom residence built on for quite sometime. This is not the SecondLifeOffice.com place that people have been to, but rather a new place. I randomly crossed paths in world with some builders and we reached an agreement that in the end took longer and did not fit the plot as well as we both thought it would. No bad feelings, they did a great job with the build, but it just didn’t fit everything in the end.

So, I’m looking for builders in Second Life. That should be farily easy right? Nope!

Yes, there are builder groups and such, but Spamming them is not going to win any friends. I was shocked when I searched the web and came up mostly empty. Linden Labs has a great directory of developers, but there is no way that is the complete list. Plus, most of these are companies and the truth is I don’t have the $$$ to hire a full blown company to do a build for me.

If you are an independennt second life builder looking to gain some experience and have a showcase piece in your portfolio please contact me. Warning that it’s a large plot basically on a cliff so it has some unique challenges to it, but I think that makes for a fun design.

    Hi,
    I hope you can help.
We are a UK based company with a huge build project underway. We are looking for 3D builders who can build to a high standard in Second Life or a 3D client that can be transfered into Second Life. We are looking for Chinese or Indian builders due to cost. OR very cost effective western builders.
If people can email me so we can view their work then this would be great.
    Cheers
    Mick

Hi, I am an independent builder living in the UK (Brighton). I am currently employed by the University of Sussex as part of their web team. I have independently built a Second Life campus for the University based on the existing “first life” campus. We go live and open the island to the public next week.

I have spare time and enjoy the work, so am looking to work as a builder/scripter, part time, for anyone who needs help developing within Second Life. I have gained considerable knowledge of building and texture mapping and am also quite confident using the Linden scripting language (lsl).

You can view some images of my work here:

Please feel free to contact me at thomasshaw1@hotmail.co.uk if you wish to discuss any projects that I could help with.

I’m a builder and I have quite a good reputation but it’s hard to get work because there seems to be only two ways to get my name out. Toss it to the wind and hope it gets seen in the massive amounts of other things floating about or pay out the ass for my name to show up first.
