Building Your Brand - PodCamp Boston Presentation

click here to listen to the podcast

This past weekend in Boston, people from all over the country gathered for PodCamp Boston. This first of it’s kind event drew all sorts of people. Photos were taken. Content was produced. New friends are made.

A personal highlight for me came when my buddy Mitch Joel and I gave a presentation to a standing room only crowd about how indviduals and companies can build their brand and become part of the conversation. It felt good. It felt energetic. It felt like perfect timing.

We didn’t get to finish the presentation which is too bad. I honestly think that the final points in the presentation are the most powerful. But, thanks to technology you get to hear a recording of what we did give. There are some inside jokes and interaction with the audience, but I hope the content is worthwhile.

Thank you Mitch for being part of this, It was both an honor and a privilege to do this with you.

CC, your session with Mitch rocked. I particularly loved:

“Be you, because others are already taken.”

That quote is an instant classic. Thanks so much for being a part of PodCamp!

    Hey C.C.,

It was an absolute pleasure to be a part of your presentation. I am still getting used to the fact that there is now audio, video and pictures out there of all of this. Imagine how much conferences have changed in this past year?

I am honoured to have you as a friend.

Is there an enclosure for this? My podcatcher isn’t picking it up.

Have you taken a look at PodPress? It is a great podcast plugin for Wordpress. I don’t have the URL right now (and the site is down). It should be back up sometime soon.

Ignore the above comment, I was subscribed to the wrong feed I guess.

PodPress is a great plugin, but I’ve never seen the need for it since WordPress supports enclosures fully. Glad it worked out for you.

    Mitch:
It was great to meet you and your session, did indeed rock the Bunker. One of my favorite parts was when you looked up and saw Guido and said, “Is this guy KNITTING during my presentation?!” Hilarious! Guido is now my favorite example of someone who has got a GREAT niche! And a niche don’t mean nothin’ if you don’t have the heart and passion to back it up. Also, thanks for the nod to 15SecondPitch. I really appreciate it.

The thing with PodPress is it gives you a great player (for playing directly on the website) and you can easily insert the length and size of the files. But as always, your site, your setup.

[…] Mitch Joel (far left) drove down from Montreal to be part of PodCamp. He and C.C. Chapman (middle) met in person for the very first time on Saturday morning, and just a few hours later they were presenting a session before a jam-packed audience on building your personal brand (listen to the session audio). Mitch has become a true friend — and mentor — to me over these last two months and having him at PodCamp was one of my personal highlights from the unconference. And C.C.? Everyone seems to know — and like — him, and there’s a very good reason for that. His enthusiasm for podcasting and goodwill are infectious. […]

Thanks for sharing this presentation. I particularly enjoyed the “Just Try It” theme. Having just started a podcast myself, I do get caught up in the “who’s gonna listen” mentality. Your conversation reminded me that I started it to spur the conversation. Thank you. Rob Engelman

Thanks CC and Mitch for the awesome presentation. I wish I was there, but the Edirol came shining through!

    Hey CC and Mitch,

What a great presentation! I have already sent this to 5 other marketers new to ‘conversations.’ One thing I wanted to add is that podcasting, blogging etc. are great ways of building meaningful relationships. By building those relationships, you build better communication. The ball rolls from there.

    Cheers,
    Mish

    C. C.: Great presentation. I missed it the first time around but I’m glad I caught it here. So true: everyone who enters this space is a brand all their own, and the question is, “How do I build my brand to be sustainable?” Certainly, being yourself and providing something of true value to a participant is part of that success.
