Get ready for new grids.

If Linden Labs is dedicated to opening the source of SL, it'll be a short time before the back-end sim architecture is reverse-engineered from the client. What would virtual worlds look like if everyone had one? Will we need to create an open federation of identities so you can traverse multiverses? Or, like the Web, will we need a different sign-on for every multiverse? If that's the case, expect the economics to radically change, too. Suppose the Student Loan Network opens up a grid where the game is progressively more free in exchange for progressively more registration data? Will information trump money?
