I was considering a move to mac. I've always been a PC guy...no! not -that- pc guy...anyway...I go online, find the nearest (2 hours away) Apple store, setup a concierge appointment with a genius and click specifically on the Switching button.

My expectations were high. Not because I set them that high, but because Apple spends millions to raise my expectations. It's the reason I was considering the mac.

So I get there...and guess what? A sales guy...I'm sure he had a different mac label...asked if he could help, I explained what I had setup and he came back and said that he was the guy to talk to. I told him my history that I was a designer of both print and websites and wanted to know why I should switch. So he showed me how cool and quick I could make a cookie cutter website. I'm a web designer and he...well, he wasn't listening.

It's the perfect example of what not to do. Don't raise expectations unless you are prepared to at the VERY least meet them.

Mac had the chance to gain a new customer. I don't think I'm impressed. Oh, their marketing will continue to impress me, they design of the system will continue to be beautiful...but I will continue to work on a Dell...I may not be wowed by Dell, but they meet my expectations. And that is worth being the one designer on the block who's laptop isn't shiny white.
