Anything Wrong With BLATENT Transparency?

I first really got Jason Calacanis on my radar when he gave a dead on keynote at the first PME conference. Sucks that no company has still executed his overall plan. Some have come close, but no one has knocked it out of the park.

So today when I read his link baiting rules post I actually laughed out loud.

I Took The BaitIt is not every day that you see someone being so open, honest and blatent about looking for people to write about him. It’s either insanity or genius. Either way I don’t care, I just thought it was worth pointing out.

If you want people to write about you giving them a reason to do so is always a good reason and this is exactly what he is doing. Hell, look it’s making me write about it just because it hit a nerve and this case it was my giggle nerve more then anything else.

Yes, putting forth a list like this is an over the top ego stroke, but who cares. That’s part of the fun of blogs and new media across the board. YOU control what you want to put out there and this is what he wants to put out so who can tell him otherwise. That is how it should work and don’t anyone forget that. YOU get to decide what you want to push out to the world and what medium you want to do it via.

Hell, if he wasn’t one of my Twitter Tots I might not have ever heard about it.

Today is looking like it’s going to be a great day on the playground for sure.

Coke Comes to Second Life

I’m away dealing with a death in the family, but I wanted to post a quick note about how earlier this week I was in Atlanta for the launch event of the new Virtual Thirst initiative from The Coca-Cola Company. My company crayon is working with them on it and I was the project lead so I’m very proud of the contest.

Coke Submittal Bottle

I’m really looking forward to people who have never even seen Second Life before to submit some fantastic ideas from their imaginations. I’m also looking forward to people using brands other then the normal Coke ones. I got thinking about Enviga pogo sticks or Dasani water slides.

I have no building skills in Second Life, but I do have an imagination and that is the goal of the contest is about imagination and what you can come up with. I’m actually bummed that I can’t enter!!

The Ultimate StalkerNet?

I was recently introduced to the Chuck Fletcher, the guy behind Mologogo which via the locator on your mobile phone can share with friends where you are in the world.

Today he told me about the addition of Twitter support.

This takes the whole concept of finding Waldo to a whole new level. I wonder how long it will be before I can play Where in the World is Jeff Pulver? *laugh*

PodCamp NYC Reactions

I just got back from PodCamp NYC and Managing the Gray #31 includes some initial reaction to the event. I also answer two call ins. The first one deals with some more about Bum Rush the Charts and the other focused on Second Life. Also, a chat about uses for social networks such as Twitter and others.

PodCamp NYC Presentation - The New Media Playground

As promised, you can now download a PDF copy of my presentation “The New Media Playground” for your review pleasure.

I told everyone in the session I would post it and had several people ask if I could since they would not be able to attend in person so it’s now up.

Enjoy and please post feedback and questions here.

Update: Watch the video of my presentation.

PodCamp NYC Reactions

I’m going to cross post this for people I met at PodCamp NYC.

She Can Tell You How to Promote Your Podcast! It was great meeting so many people. Going to an event where there are more people that I don’t know then do know is a change and I couldn’t stop smiling. Walking the halls, taking photos and shaking hands always makes me happy. When it turns into a hug it is even better!

If we met or we missed each other we can still make it happen. Vital stats

  • cc.chapman@gmail.com is the address I usually give out to people. Or you can use the one on the business card
  • CC-Chapman.com is my personal blog. It’s the one that keeps track of everything
  • As you saw, I have my camera with me always and post photos to my Flickr page
  • Managing the Gray is my new media focused podcast. If you liked my speech that would be one to subscribe to for free
  • The company I work for is really called crayon

I just recorded an Accident Hash with some reactions to the event. Overall I completely loved it. Did the shear volume of people take away from the community aspect of some of the other PodCamps? Of course it did. No way that it wouldn’t and I missed that, but at the same time it was a different event so it’s all good.

I have so many great memories from this event. SOOOOOOOO many new people I met and that I can’t wait to follow up with because I have tons of stuff to talk about. I also will be posting my presentation soon. It’s just on the other computer and I want to make sure I post the final version. I’m looking forward to see how many people do their homework. *grin*

Congratulations and thank you to all of the organizers, volunteers and sponsors who made this event a reality!

PodCamp NYC - Hope to See You There

Chris Brogan just did a post like this and I really like the idea of it so I figured it was a great idea.

I arrive in the city on Thursday morning and will be leaving early Saturday night. In between I’ve got meetings, hangouts and of course presentations.

CC @ the Beach

So some vitals for me and what is going on:

  • I will be posting to Twitter, but I doubt I’ll be reading it much
  • I am speaking at 1 pm in the Grand Ballroom: Floor 2
  • The name of my presentation is “The New Media Playground”
  • I will have my mobile with me so if you know the number feel free to use it.
  • Make sure you download the Unofficial Guide to PodCamp NYC. I just printed out a copy to have with me at all times.
  • I will be at the gathering Friday night, but won’t be at the one on Saturday.
  • If you see me, PLEASE come and say hello! I hate hearing after the fact from people saying, “Oh I wanted to say hi but you looked busy.” I’m never too busy to socialize with people. That’s the point of these events!

I think those are the details I needed to share. You’ll know me because I’ll be the guy with a camera of some sort in my hands at all times!

And yes there is still time to get pictures of YOU playing on playground equipment in. E-mail them to me or post on Flickr and send me the URL. The more I have the more slides I’ve got to add to put them in. *grin*

Can’t wait to see a lot of you there!

Ancestor Attacks Amazon

Ancestor

Want to prove to the big publishing companies that we can make a difference. Want to buy a cool book and help an awesome writer and a good friend of mine in the process?

Then sometime today April 1st order a copy of Ancestor from Amazon. I know that Scott Sigler will be happy and so will I. Not a fan of this genre? Then order a copy and give it to a friend, away on your podcast or to your public library. The key is to order one. *grin*
