XOHM Bringing WiMax to Boston
I got an outreach e-mail a few weeks back talking about how WiMax service was going to be coming to Boston. They contacted me because they knew I loved my Sprint Mobile Broadband and wanted to let me know about this “exciting news.”
I put that in quotes because I didn’t have a clue why this was important to me. Sure, I know enough to know that WiMax can mean faster service, but since I’m already a customer would this mean I’d have to pay more money? Did I need to buy a new modem for something that I would only be able to get in certain areas?
I asked this of the person who reached out to me and instead of writing back the answers they asked Scott Martin from XOHM to answer the questions for me on video. It was a little strange that they sent me a video file that I had to upload somewhere in order to blog post about it, but still they took the extra step to make it a bit more personal which I liked.

So, what exactly do you get? What is the big win? You get the same service you’ve always gotten (with the possibility of faster service with 4g) and a new 3g/4g aircard. Not sure why he mentioned the merger in his explanation or the billing issues. Why do you care how you’re going to get billed when your question is what you’re going to get billed? Seems like the message missed the mark. Maybe the folks at commoncraft could explain the benefits/costs just a little better.
Note to XOHM: get commoncraft to explain why this is a big win for consumers
Just a thought.
I just don’t think Sprint’s brand perception can be saved from their years of bad customer service and network performance. And more importantly, did they know Segway used this video for some serious product placement?
