Goals
I spent this past weekend with friends and some of the discussion turned to goals. Combine that with a listener question about how they could become a goal setting person and I thought this would be a perfect topic for today’s Managing the Gray .
Other things mentioned on the show:
- Chris Brogan talking goals
- Kickstarter
- Social Media Breakfast NH – April 16th
- 140 Conference NYC – April 20 & 21
- CMT Adventure Country
I hope you know by now, that I truly do want to help you achieve amazing things. If you ever want to chat or need a nudge please e-mail me. Does your business need a jolt of smart and strategic creativity? If so be sure to get in touch with us at Campfire because we’d love to do it for you.

Actually, the worst answer you can get when you ask for help is no answer. I have a goal of getting 4 new corporate writing clients for ongoing projects (e.g. employee newsletters), and I’ve been approaching various connections for help.
Hearing “I don’t know of anything, but I’ll keep you in mind” is fine. So is “I’m really the wrong person to ask about that.” But hearing nothing at all and not knowing whether my message ended up in the spam folder, they’re too busy to respond, or they’re deliberately ignoring me is a real bugger. I’m stumped about the appropriate follow-up, so I’m postponing it by just moving down the list.
A polite nudge is never a bad thing especially in today’s word of overflowing inboxes.
Just be polite and say something like “I’m worried you might not have seen this message….” and then including the original. I actually welcome those because I know I’ve missed replying to stuff more then once.
Just listened to this podcast today, and was reminded of an acronym I learned a while back (but unfortunately don’t make enough use of):
SMART goals – specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, time-sensitive (or any variation on the wording):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SMART_criteria
You inspired me to go and start setting some new, ‘SMART’ goals. Thanks very much!
