Bring the Social Back

listen to managing the gray

I seem to have picked up several new listeners from my show on the Manic Mommies which is great. If this is your first show then welcome!

I’m excited to say that I have a new call in number for the show. It is 1-866-384-4522 and if you are a listener of more then one of my shows, that number is going to work for all of them so write it down or throw it into your phone.

Mentioned on the show

I also mention the scholarships I’m going to be giving away for PodCamp Boston 3, but you’ll have to listen to get the details.

Channel Your Energy

listen to managing the gray

I’m fresh from PodCamp Boston 2 and full of energy and since I’m trying to insure that I channel it appropriately I figured I’d share with you my thoughts. Plus it plays well into the question I keep getting around how people can break into new media. I have some pretty clear thoughts on this and share them on the episode. Comment line always open at 206-309-4729.

Don’t forget that if you want to get every new episode that comes out for free, you can click here to add it to iTunes. Just click on the subscribe button when you get there and you’ll get them all.

I also mentioned a new project that I’m working on and looking for a couple of BETA testers to help me try something on their mobile phones. E-mail me if this sounds interesting to you.

I’m Speaking at The Era of Conversation Conference

Once again the power of Twitter shows up in my life and this time it leads to me giving a morning keynote at the October 4th Era of Conversation Conference in Washington, DC.

dmaw-newmedia-logo-thumb.jpgI’m excited about this event because it looks like a packed day full of information and interesting people. Geoff Livingston and I connected via Twitter about me doing this event and I’ll be speaking along side Valeria Maltoni which is very cool.

I’ve been working on a new presentation and wasn’t sure when I might actually first show it, but this could be the event. After watching Mitch Joel speak, I’ve really begun to look at presentations as something very different. Thus I want to really focus in on the presentation as much as what I’m saying. Does that make sense? It does in my head. *grin*

So if you are anywhere near DC when this is going on consider registering and attending for the day. If you are going let me know so that we can be sure to meet each other and really have a conversation.

Coke Comes to Second Life

I’m away dealing with a death in the family, but I wanted to post a quick note about how earlier this week I was in Atlanta for the launch event of the new Virtual Thirst initiative from The Coca-Cola Company. My company crayon is working with them on it and I was the project lead so I’m very proud of the contest.

Coke Submittal Bottle

I’m really looking forward to people who have never even seen Second Life before to submit some fantastic ideas from their imaginations. I’m also looking forward to people using brands other then the normal Coke ones. I got thinking about Enviga pogo sticks or Dasani water slides.

I have no building skills in Second Life, but I do have an imagination and that is the goal of the contest is about imagination and what you can come up with. I’m actually bummed that I can’t enter!!

PodCamp NYC Presentation - The New Media Playground

As promised, you can now download a PDF copy of my presentation “The New Media Playground” for your review pleasure.

I told everyone in the session I would post it and had several people ask if I could since they would not be able to attend in person so it’s now up.

Enjoy and please post feedback and questions here.

Update: Watch the video of my presentation.

PodCamp NYC Reactions

I’m going to cross post this for people I met at PodCamp NYC.

She Can Tell You How to Promote Your Podcast! It was great meeting so many people. Going to an event where there are more people that I don’t know then do know is a change and I couldn’t stop smiling. Walking the halls, taking photos and shaking hands always makes me happy. When it turns into a hug it is even better!

If we met or we missed each other we can still make it happen. Vital stats

  • cc.chapman@gmail.com is the address I usually give out to people. Or you can use the one on the business card
  • CC-Chapman.com is my personal blog. It’s the one that keeps track of everything
  • As you saw, I have my camera with me always and post photos to my Flickr page
  • Managing the Gray is my new media focused podcast. If you liked my speech that would be one to subscribe to for free
  • The company I work for is really called crayon

I just recorded an Accident Hash with some reactions to the event. Overall I completely loved it. Did the shear volume of people take away from the community aspect of some of the other PodCamps? Of course it did. No way that it wouldn’t and I missed that, but at the same time it was a different event so it’s all good.

I have so many great memories from this event. SOOOOOOOO many new people I met and that I can’t wait to follow up with because I have tons of stuff to talk about. I also will be posting my presentation soon. It’s just on the other computer and I want to make sure I post the final version. I’m looking forward to see how many people do their homework. *grin*

Congratulations and thank you to all of the organizers, volunteers and sponsors who made this event a reality!

PodCamp NYC - Hope to See You There

Chris Brogan just did a post like this and I really like the idea of it so I figured it was a great idea.

I arrive in the city on Thursday morning and will be leaving early Saturday night. In between I’ve got meetings, hangouts and of course presentations.

CC @ the Beach

So some vitals for me and what is going on:

  • I will be posting to Twitter, but I doubt I’ll be reading it much
  • I am speaking at 1 pm in the Grand Ballroom: Floor 2
  • The name of my presentation is “The New Media Playground”
  • I will have my mobile with me so if you know the number feel free to use it.
  • Make sure you download the Unofficial Guide to PodCamp NYC. I just printed out a copy to have with me at all times.
  • I will be at the gathering Friday night, but won’t be at the one on Saturday.
  • If you see me, PLEASE come and say hello! I hate hearing after the fact from people saying, “Oh I wanted to say hi but you looked busy.” I’m never too busy to socialize with people. That’s the point of these events!

I think those are the details I needed to share. You’ll know me because I’ll be the guy with a camera of some sort in my hands at all times!

And yes there is still time to get pictures of YOU playing on playground equipment in. E-mail them to me or post on Flickr and send me the URL. The more I have the more slides I’ve got to add to put them in. *grin*

Can’t wait to see a lot of you there!

Building Your Brand - PodCamp Boston Presentation

click here to listen to the podcast

This past weekend in Boston, people from all over the country gathered for PodCamp Boston. This first of it’s kind event drew all sorts of people. Photos were taken. Content was produced. New friends are made.

A personal highlight for me came when my buddy Mitch Joel and I gave a presentation to a standing room only crowd about how indviduals and companies can build their brand and become part of the conversation. It felt good. It felt energetic. It felt like perfect timing.

We didn’t get to finish the presentation which is too bad. I honestly think that the final points in the presentation are the most powerful. But, thanks to technology you get to hear a recording of what we did give. There are some inside jokes and interaction with the audience, but I hope the content is worthwhile.

Thank you Mitch for being part of this, It was both an honor and a privilege to do this with you.

PodCamp Boston 2006

I’m writing this as I’m headed out the door to what I know is going to be a great day and night. Yes, it’s a two day event but I will only be there for today.

Already pictures are being posted which is an amazing thing. As long as pictures are tagged with podcamp a nice virtual album will be built.

podcamp BostonMitch Joel and I went over our presnentation and I’m excited by it. I hope it starts a lot of conversation and allows people to realize that building your self brand and marketing your podcast is not about spending money at all. I know some people won’t be able to understand that, but they’ll come around someday. *grin*

My stomach is still not 100% at this point and Roxie has been ill all night. I don’t think we ate the same thing. At least I hope not!

If we meet at PodCamp, please drop me an e-mail and lets keep the conversation going. If we missed each other still drop me a line and let’s get it started.
